Dr. Carlotto

Dr. Carlotto was initially drawn to the dental field because of the combination of science and connecting with others. After graduating from The Harvard School of Dental Medicine with his DMD, he chose to specialize in orthodontics since it would require even more treatment planning, critical thinking, and customization. All of these years later, and still nothing brings him more joy than seeing his patients’ “before” and “after” photos!

Since earning his Master of Science and Certificate in Orthodontics, Dr. Carlotto has remained committed to pursuing continuing education and advanced training. That way, he can continue to provide his patients in Ashland with the absolute best orthodontic care, cutting-edge technology, and top-tier customer service. When he isn’t helping our patients or completing continuing education with the American Association of Orthodontists, he enjoys listening to podcasts, watching documentaries, watching sports, and running (to balance out all of the ice cream he eats!).

Dr. Alkhoury

When Dr. Alkhoury saw first-hand the positive impact braces could have on someone’s confidence and overall quality of life, he knew he had found the career for him. His decades-long career in the dental field began after he graduated with honors from Boston University and completed a residency in Advanced Education in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at New York University. Now, he has nearly 30 years of experience under his belt, he’s been recognized by the American Academy of Orthodontists, and he’s completed countless hours of continuing education with professional organizations like the American Dental Association!

Of course, Dr. Alkhoury has lots of interests and passions outside of orthodontics as well. When he isn’t at our office, you’ll likely find him with his family, cheering on the Red Sox, or traveling!

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’ve made it to the end of this page, but you find yourself still wanting to learn more, don’t worry – we’ve dedicated this next section to FAQs for that very reason! Feel free to read through the below questions and answers to learn more about emergency orthodontic care, the financial solutions we offer, and more. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for here, then give us a call!

What level of education is required to be an orthodontist?

The very first step is earning an undergraduate degree and being accepted to one of 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S. Then, the aspiring orthodontist must complete three years of intensive in-classroom and hands-on training to earn their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS). Although they have roughly seven years of schooling under their belt at this point, they need to complete an additional step: specialty training in orthodontics. Even after becoming an orthodontist, their training is far from over since they need to complete continuing education courses annually in order to maintain their license.

How do I get emergency orthodontic care?

Fortunately, orthodontic emergencies are relatively rare. With that said, if you find yourself with a broken bracket or wire, you should call our orthodontist near Ashland ASAP so that we can schedule an appointment for you as soon as possible.

It’s important that we mention here that potentially life-threatening symptoms (like uncontrollable bleeding or extreme facial swelling) warrant a visit to the ER.

We also don’t want to end this section without discussing the ways you can dramatically reduce your chances of experiencing an orthodontic emergency. A few examples include: avoiding crunchy foods, implementing a solid oral hygiene regimen, and quitting unhealthy dental habits, like biting your nails.

What do you do if you can't afford an orthodontist?

Patients often assume that braces won’t fit into their budget. However, our team offers four financial solutions to ensure that’s not the case! If you’re insured, then we will see if your provider covers a portion of the cost. If you’re uninsured, then we can explore the other options available, including our periodic special offers and flexible financing.

What is the best way to find an orthodontist?

There are several ways you can find an orthodontist – from asking your colleagues for their recommendations to searching “orthodontist near me” on Google. Before that, however, we strongly encourage you to pinpoint what’s important to you as a patient. Are you looking for a practice that accepts your dental insurance? Are you looking for a team that offers Invisalign? Asking (and answering) questions like these will help you find the best orthodontist for you.
